Earth is Big: A Book of Comparisons

Steve Tomecek (Author) Marcos Farina (Illustrator)

Earth is big! (compared to a frog)
Earth is small! (when it’s hiding in a galaxy)

And that’s not all. Earth is wet and dry, hot and cold, round and jagged, fast and slow. You get the idea. It depends how you look at it!

I’ve just put this book down and I’m not sure where to start, my mind has been blown by some of the facts and information in this wonderful book! Did you know that there is a tree in Sweden that is nearly 10,000 years old! or that the average adult has 34 litres of water in their body? I’m going to use lots of words like fabulous, amazing, and stupendous to describe this book.

There are so many fabulous illustrations, graphics and infographics which really bring the amazing facts to life. Set out in large double page spreads you can’t help but be drawn in. The basis of each section is a simple statement, such as “Earth is wet”, which is then explored to great depth. Lots of numbers, facts and figures bring everything to life. This is a must have book for anyone with an interest in the planet, whether from a geographical, scientific or mathematical point of view. There is so much detail and information here, I think you could probably use it as a spring board for several years worth of lesson plans and individual exploration.

The term “must have” is over-used, and I am guilty of it, but with this book it’s true! You simply must have it! It’s stupendous!
